“Upon collecting the skip at my property, the company caused damage that could not have been foreseen by any reasonable customer. Without my prior knowledge, they brought a second full skip to my property to stack upon the skip when collecting. Loose car parts fell from the other skip and damaged my fence, wall and gate. Driver tried to claim it wasn't him - basically was untruthful to us. We have photos and video. Gate clearly marked with red paint from the car part and we found debris from the car door on the ground. I complained and the company originally asked me to send in photographs of the damage and they would check the truck's onboard cameras; I was reassured by phone it would be looked at and made right. When it was passed to management however, I was flatly told it was company policy that they took no responsibility for damage in customer driveways. This "clause" appeared on the job sheet that I didn't personally sign; it was booked by my contractor and I had no choice in the skip company. I just got given the job sheet when skip was delivered, and it was already pre-signed by someone else. Such a clause is fair enough with regard to damaging the ground with jacks, or material falling from *your own* skip. Nowhere is a customer made aware that the company indulges in "skip stacking" (considered bad practice by the HSE) and that there may be a risk of them bringing *other material* onto your property which then falls and causes damage. No customer could reasonably foresee such an incident. To be fair to my contractor, he made good on the broken fence panel at his cost, but I had to pay for additional new panels so the fence looks consistent. I still have a six year old, £1500 gate with damaged powder coating, and cracked wall, and this needs to be rectified at some point as the gate is sagging. What I don't have is the time or energy to pursue this through the small claims process at the minute. If the company had been more responsive and reasonable, seeing that the fault was clearly theirs for bringing another overloaded skip to my property, over the sake of a small amount of money and goodwill, they could have avoided me having to leave a review like this. Beware.”
