“Over the last month, I have visited this cafe two or three times a week and enjoyed the food and the service from the charming staff. Last week, there were two consecutive occasions, when I requested a sandwich on white bread at 2pm in the afternoon only to be told, "We have run out of white bread. " Last Saturday, the girl on duty proudly proclaimed, "Everyone loves it! (white bread)" To which I replied, "If everyone loves it, you need to have more of it so people like me can enjoy it too". The girl replied, rather arrogantly, "Perhaps." I told her, "There is no 'perhaps' about it. It is a question of bringing supply and demand in to equilibrium so that you supply your customers with what they want on the menu. You have another three hours of trading, you will probably disappoint other customers." The absence of an apology from the girl was noticeable. A young man appeared from the kitchen and apologised profusely. I stated that it felt wrong that on my last two visits the same thing had happened and on one previous occasion a couple of weeks earlier, I was similarly disappointed over the non availability of white bread. I explained, "There is no point my coming here if I have to substitute what I would like to buy with products that I do not want to eat. It is taking my time and custom for granted, you won't see me again."”
