“FANTASTIC CLASSES, highly recommend it!!! 🤩 The workshop was informative, fun, and surprisingly relaxing. Helen Miles is an accomplished mosaicist and a wonderfully kind, patient, and knowledgeable teacher. She's highly regarded in the mosaic community both in the UK and internationally, and I was thrilled to finally have the chance to learn from her. I recently took her two-day immersion workshop on classical mosaics and came away with so much more than I expected. The structure of the workshop helped me grasp the underlying principles of Roman mosaics and gave me the confidence to apply them in executing a Roman-style design. Helen was attentive and supportive throughout and at every stage of the process—often anticipating when someone needed help even before they said anything. Just fantastic supportive presence. To most teachers having a group of differing skill levels is a challenge but not to Helen. Our group was a mix of total beginners and folks with prior mosaic experience. Helen still managed to provide feedback and ideas that were adequate to our experience and that really helped expand our sensibilities. I personally gained a lot not only from her direct input but also from listening to her conversations with other students. Although I had never worked in the classical style before, I left the workshop with a surprisingly harmonious piece (see photo!). More importantly, Helen didn’t just explain the “rules”—she showed us how they still apply in contemporary work.
