Simon is an excellent instructor, clearly hugely talented, but more importantly, he knows how to pass that knowledge on in a calm, friendly, and encouraging way. Before the course, we discussed what lettering project I wanted to work on, and when day one started Simon was fully prepared and ready to go. The first morning was spent on well-structured exercises covering the fundamental cuts, when to use them, and how they affect the finished letterforms. This groundwork made a big difference. After lunch, and throughout the second day, the focus shifted to completing the actual project. The pace felt just right—unhurried, but productive and the guidance was always there when needed. I’m thoroughly delighted with what I produced over the two days, which is something I didn’t expect going in. It’s given me both confidence and a solid foundation to build on. I’ll definitely be getting back in touch with Simon over the summer to buy some tools and supplies so I can continue my lettering journey at home.
